About

ODILE COMPAGNON is an independent architect with a practice in Chicago and in Paris, France as well  as  a teaching professorship at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago,  in the Department of Architecture, Interior Architecture and Designed  Objects. Prior to her current status, Odile was a partner with Studio  Gang / O’Donnell, from its founding in 1997 to 2000. Before coming to  the United States as a visiting professor at the University of Illinois  at Chicago, Odile partnered with Marie-Hélène Dangeon and Denis Martinet  at DMC Architectes, in Paris.  This firm focused on communities in  central France where DMC built public housing, and various public  buildings in addition to private commissions. DMC was commissioned as an  Urban Planner for the Cities of Le Blanc, Châteauroux and Argenton sur  Creuse.

DMC’s projects were awarded top recognition by  Architecture Mouvement Continuité in their annual review of built  Architecture in 1994, 1995 and 1996. Prior to the formation of DMC Architectes in 1987,  Odile practiced with the firm of Chemetov and Huidobro in Paris,  considered one of the leading French firms in the design and  construction of Community Buildings and Social Housing. During this  practice, Odile coordinated the design of the French Embassy in New  Delhi, India with the local architect, Raj Rewal and supervised the  building construction. Odile Compagnon's areas of specialty are in creative  reuse, urban planning, education and community participation. 

She is a registered Architect in Illinois, France and the E.E.C.

In 2022, Odile was made a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French Minister of Culture
