The Sears Sunken Garden is part of the original Sears and Roebuck campus on the west side of Chicago. Once Sears left the neighborhood in 1974, the campus became the property of the Foundation for Homan Square overseeing the garden today. The Sears Sunken Garden Restoration project will repair all damage to the historic pergola structure, protect the structure against future damage from weather events, and ensure its long-term preservation and maintenance. Friends of Sears Sunken Garden will manage the full scope of the historic pergola structure restoration. The landscaping and planting of the garden around the pergola will bring the garden to ADA universal accessibility standards as well as make it a demonstration project for current landscaping trends in slowing down climate change.
