Equiticity is developing The Go Hub: A Community Mobility Center in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the west side of Chicago.
The Go Hub is a physical and digital space where neighborhood residents create community around mobility justice and environmental justice. Designed to increase mobility in predominantly Black and Brown neighborhoods experiencing severe transportation inequities,
The Go Hub will be reflective of both the transportation needs and cultural identity of the North Lawndale neighborhood.
Love Blooms Here Plaza is an ongoing project for the phased implementation of a public space at the intersection of Central Park Avenue and Douglas Boulevard, where a vacant lot used to be. The plaza is structured by three shipping containers, one of which is a local culture museum and the other two will become a flower shop and a cafe. This project is located across the boulevard from the Stone Temple Baptist Church and has become an important hub where the community finds a place to exchange ideas, goods and moral support.
The Greening, Open Space, Water, Soil and Sustainability (GROWSS) committee of the North Lawndale Communityt Coordinating Council (NLCCC) is hoping to acquire this empty lot from the City of Chicago to create a market place for its growing Food to Table Program. At the intersection of Millard Avenue and Douglas Boulevard, across from Stone Temple Baptist Church this will be an extension of the Church Plaza where Sustenance for the Soul is already taking place every Monday, year round. It will create a third place for community activities, symmetrically located from Love Blooms Here Plaza
